This is Aqua Books owner Kelly Hughes (me) on CJOB radio’s The Nighthawk (8.7.09), talking with host Luke Eisbrenner about censorship, book burning, and other things. (It’s a whole 26 minutes long, so don’t listen to it unless you’re some kind of shut-in or something.)

Apple’s App Store has censored a dictionary called Ninjawords. I will be on Winnipeg’s CJOB 680am (and online) tonight at 9:05pm CST to discuss censorship, etc. with host Luke EisBrenner.

Hi Kelly,
My partner and I were at your garage sale today with our puppy, Turtle. Aside from the fact that we bought four bags of garage sale books and are still happily playing with them, we’d also like to thank the thoughtful and friendly staffperson outside who offered Turtle a pail of cold water to drink. Please let her know how much we appreciated that kind gesture. Thank you.
Regards,
Denise

Conversation with a used bookstore employee
Me: Hi, I’m wondering if you have Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace?
BK: Yea I do, but it’s a hardcover.
Me: That’s fine.
BK: And it’s in the back.
Me: Ok…
BK: Yea, so I can’t get it right now.
Me: Oh, ok. When do you think you’ll be able to get it?
BK: Next week.
Me: Oh. Alright then. How much will it be?
BK: It’s a hardcover…
Me: Yea, that’s fine. How much do you think it will be?
BK: No idea. They did have a “help wanted” sign in the window sooooo this is probably why.

This is August 2009 Designer-in-Residence Julia Michaud. She will be doing a presentation on design for us mid-month, hopefully while wearing baggy jeans and a bolero(?).
