This is the poster for our new Film Writer-in-Residence, Kier-La Janisse. Kier-La (pronounced Kayla) is working on a book about women in horror films, and will be doing a series for us in January called Teenage Rampage: Delinquents on Page and Screen.
And what about this Saul Bass-inspired poster? Bril designer Julia Michaud (aka Instant Noodles) has outdone herself again.

This is a new pic by Winnipeg photog Roberutsu of the lovely Gillian Sze (Aqua Books Writer-in-Residence for March 2010).

(I can’t wait for the rest.)
Last night at Aqua Books was great fun. Kelly Hughes was a wonderful host and a very entertaining interviewer. I was lucky enough to meet the regulars in the audience as well as Clarise and Lori from CV2. Thank you to those who came. The room had a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Very Winnipeg. xo At the end of the interview, Kelly announced the good news that I will be the writer-in-residence for a term in 2010. More about this later!
Tonight I’ll be at Polo Park’s McNally Robinson. Find me there at 7:30.

Aqua Books Designer-in-Residence for August 2009 Julia Michaud, working (posing, actually) in Studio 3 at Winnipeg’s Cultural City Hall. Julia will be doing a talk on the Aqua Books design look at Soapbox Open Mic on August 18/09. She’s also a major Tumblr. Perhaps you’ve heard of Instant Noodles?

Aqua Books is pleased to announce that Julia Michaud (of Instant Noodles fame) will be our Designer-in-Residence for August 2009. Julia, who created the Aqua Books brand, will be doing a lecture/presentation on good design (and also how she developed Aqua Books’ image) on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 7pm.

Our Emerging Writer-in-Residence for July 2009, Marika Prokosh.
(Another sweet poster by Instant Noodles Design here in Winnipeg)

Last night at the 2009 Manitoba Book Awards, former Aqua Books Writer-in-Residence won the John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Writer. Congrats, Michael. (You can’t really tell in this pic, but he’s one big dude, so good thing they gave it to him.)

Our Arts Writer in Residence, Amy Karlinksy (middle), is with a couple of artists who took in her workshop last week called “Talking About Your Art”. Tomorrow is Amy’s last day as Arts Writer in Residence and we’re very sad to see her go.

New W-i-R starting in February.
(because it’s ok to toot your own horn sometimes I thought I’d mention that we are one of only two bookstores in all of Canada that have a Writer in Residence)

Prairie Fire, Manitoba’s magazine of Canadian writing, is pleased to announce that Winnipeg poet Katherine Bitney has been named the first writer-in-residence in the magazine’s thirty-year history. Ms Bitney will be based in Aqua Books, which is located at 274 Garry Street in downtown Winnipeg.
